Snoring, like all sounds are either loud or quiet, it is caused by vibrations in the respiratory structures. It occurs during sleep when the area at the back of the throat or nose relaxes and narrows. The air movement is then restricted in the air passage resulting in that sound.
A snore guard device is placed in the mouth and used during sleep. It helps to prevent the jaw and tongue from falling back into the throat and restricting the airway which reduces snoring. This is a specialised product that is designed to accurately fit your mouth.
The most serious type of snoring can stop the breathing this is called Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), and can be moderate to severe.
There are many products on the market to help your snoring. It is called a Mandibular Advancement Device and helps by holding your lower jaw and tongue forward; therefore keeping your airways open whilst you sleep. Speak to our clinicians for more information.
